Karuma Hydropower and the Interconnection Behind It.

The energy minister’s commissioning remarks set out the 600 MW plant and the 400 kV / 132 kV lines that put that power on the grid.

What this piece covers.

The commissioning speech for Karuma records three parts of the job: the 600 MW hydropower plant; interconnection to Kawanda, Olwiyo and Lira on 400 kV and 132 kV; and the associated community works. Generation without those lines does not reach the substations that serve the rest of the network.

For contractors and utilities the useful detail is the interconnection, not the ceremony. High-voltage lines, substations and protection are the path from a dam to an operator — the same path energy programmes on this site are built around.
