Island Water Supply on Bugala, Kalangala.

Kalangala Infrastructure Services describes solar-powered extraction, treatment and piped water on Bugala Island — a mixed utility, not a single plant.

Briefing

What this piece covers.

Kalangala Infrastructure Services runs roads, ferries, power and water on Bugala Island. The World Water Day note concentrates on water: solar-powered extraction from the lake, filtration, chlorination and a piped network with public stand taps, in place of untreated lake water carried by hand.

The useful design point is the mix. Ferry income was used to carry a water system that would not have stood up on its own. Water programmes on the mainland face a different commercial test, but the engineering sequence — source, treatment, distribution, metering — is the same sequence a water brief still has to specify.
